Huron Meadows Metropark, Brighton, MI

2009 Wrap Up

It was kind of disappointing to have firm, snow- and ice-free trails, and no wind - something we're not accustomed to at this race. But at least temperatures were cool and it made for some blazing fast times! BARS Member Dave Homann took overall male honors with a 28:43 finish. The race record is 26:00 set in our inaugural year (2000) by Dathan Ritzenheim on the old course starting at the south end of the park. Peter Bruno of Okemos took the Male Master win with a 31:40 time.

Mom & daughter Wanda and Jennifer Gunderson took the Female Master and Open, respectively. Wanda's no stranger to this race having won Female Master 4 times (2000-2002, 2007) and overall female also in 2002. Wanda's time was 37:37 and Jennifer's was 33:18 - great job ladies! Our four top finishers were awarded a great Mizuno gear bag embroidered with the the race name and year of their victory.

Our gratitude to the Huron Clinton Metropark Authority for helping us put on this race, especially to Jerry Cyr for helping us with the permit requirements and to Head Groundskeeper Adam Haberkorn and his crew at Huron Meadows. They were out all week checking the trails and moving tables for our runners. If you haven't experienced this park yet, come out and run the trails sometime. And don't forget to bring your golf clubs for a different kind of cool down.
